Group 11 2021: Dubbo CYMS will host what could be match of the year

Round nine of the Group 11 season is headlined by what could be the grand final preview.

During their first meeting this year, it was CYMS who came away with the win but Wellington have looked strong in the last month.

CYMS currently sit undefeated and narrowly avoided a loss to Parkes last week but captain Jarryn Powyer knows his side are eager for Sunday.

"We're looking forward to it," he said.

"We know we are in a patch where we've got back to back footy and have had a couple of tough clashes.

"Everyone is pretty focused week by week, we know this game we have good competition but we are not looking into specifics of what they are bringing.

"We're just trying to get our game right at the moment and we working on it a lot."

CYMS have had several players come in and out of their side over the last month but Powyer is not too phased by it.

"Not really, I was talking to Shaggy [Shawn Townsend] during the week," he said.

"We think it takes a club to have a successful year.

"It never works out in a perfect world where you would have 17 guys play through the whole year so it's good chance to see what other people can do.

"There is a lot of new talent in the club this year so it's just finding the right mix and it's rare you would get it right early on.

"We are just trying different things at the moment so each week is a different look."

One of those players who has been forced to change positions is Jack Smith and Powyer feels the move into the halves is bringing the best out of him.

"Smithy, he's a real talent," he said.

"He's a quiet kid, he's probably just finding his feet at the moment.

"He was in at lock and it's probably just worked out through injuries he's had to go into halves.

"He's really come into his own, I feel he can choose when he takes control of the game rather having the constant pressure of attack and defence."

Wellington demolished Forbes last week and Powyer knows they are in for a tougher battle than their round two match up.

"They're a strong side," he said.

"Over the last few years we seem to go game for game with these guys.

"We know it doesn't matter whether you playing them in Dubbo or Wellington it's going to be a cracking game.

"Everyone's improving as the season goes on and I think it's going even tougher than the first one I think.

"The score didn't indicate how tough the first was."

Macquarie enjoy the week off with the bye for round nine.
