Grenfell to host Western Womens Rugby League

This Saturday at Lawson Oval Woodbridge will host the Panorama Platypi in round 3 of the Western Women’s Rugby League competition. There will be five games of full contact Rugby League starting with the Under 12s at 9.30am followed by the Under 14s (10.30am), 16s (11.40am), 18s (12.50pm) and then the day will conclude with the Opens clash starting at 2pm.

We wish the following local girls all the best on Saturday, Harmony Schneider and Meadow Mooney (under 14s), Hannah Kohnen, Rachael Tomlinson and Amber Taylor (under 16s), Dana Yerbury (under 18s), and Caitlin Dixon (opens).

All games should be very competitive but there will be plenty of interest in the opens match as Woodbridge have won their first two games of the competition however on Saturday, they are coming up against a Platypi outfit who were the 2023 premiers and who are also one of the 2024 premiership heavyweights.

Gate entry is $5 Adults and $3 Pensioners, and the gate is owned and operated by the Woodbridge Cup Committee.

The Western Women’s competition is made up of seven clubs and they are the Goannas (Dubbo area), Vipers (Orange area), Panorama Platypi (Bathurst area), Lachlan (Forbes & Parkes area), Dragons (Mudgee area), Woodies (Woodbridge Cup clubs), and Cougars (Castlereagh Cup clubs- Gilgandra, Cobar etc).

Each team plays each other once culminating in the Semi-Finals (9th/10th November) and Grand Final (16th November).

There has been massive growth in the Women’s tackle game in recent years and this is partly due to the well-defined pathways.

The representative teams commence with the Lisa Fiola Cup (under 17s), followed by the Tarsha Gale Cup (under 19s), Harvey Norman Cup (Sydney First Grade), NRL Women, State of Origin, and the pinnacle, Australian selection.

There are already many players who have come through the Western competition who are playing in the beforementioned representative teams.
